Exhibition of Contemporary Korean Art. St. Petersburg

From 18 to 24 August 2007 in the Central exhibition hall “Manege” will be held exhibition of contemporary Korean art “St. Petersburg – Daegu 2007”. In formed of paintings, drawings and calligraphy exhibition, works by artists from the city of Daegu, and Korean artists living in St. Petersburg.

The uniqueness of the art of Joseon – “the country of morning freshness”, as they call their homeland, people in Korea – in pursuit of harmony, in a prayerful attitude to nature, in the impersonation of characters, “good characters”, in a calm and peaceful attitude towards the world. At the exhibition viewers will be able to experience how Korea is an amazing country and as in love with their land, the people living there, always open to creativity and goodness.

Korean artists – members founded in 1961 as a major cultural and industrial centre in South-East – Daegu . branch of the Association of arts of Korea. This Association was created for development of Korean art. The Department, working in Daegu, considers its main objective to support members in their creative work, as well as the organization of international cooperation in the field of art and culture. Today in the office of the Association is 1600 artists. They specialize in various spheres – in painting, design, calligraphy, drawing and architecture.

The exhibition will be attended by Korean artists who live, work and study in St. Petersburg. Among them well-known masters of the fine arts: artists, photographers, and students and graduates of the St. Petersburg State academic Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture. I. E. Repin.

Petersburg Koreans remember their origins, cherish the memory of the historical homeland, its traditions and culture. In the event day they will meet their fellow Korean artists, and explore their creativity, share thoughts and impressions.

Contemporary art exhibition of Korea “in St. Petersburg- Daegu – 2007” is an important step towards strengthening cultural ties between the peoples of Russia and Korea, the harmonization of interethnic relations of the Russian society.
